Imphal, December 23:
Reacting against the attack on a passenger bus last evening by unidentified gunmen, the Imphal-Silchar Road Transporter Welfare Society has called off all bus services on NH-53 from tomorrow.
The bus (MN-01 0975) which was attacked by unidentified gunmen is reported to be from the Rajdhani Tourist Travels.
According to reports, some gun wielding youths signalled the passenger bus (Imphal-Silchar) to stop while it was approaching Motokhong, 16 kms east of Jiribam Police Station.
The driver unable to bring the bus to a sudden halt, parked a few yards away from the unidentified gunmen.
Enraged at the driver's failure to comply with their order, the gunmen started firing at the rear wheel of the bus, puncturing the tyres in the process, said the source.
Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident.
However, it is not clear whether the driver was manhandled or not by the gunmen.
In protest against the incident a meeting has been scheduled at Jiribam tomorrow to deliberate on the future course of action to be taken by the association against the Highwaymen.
