The Army authority has today stated that an Army Court of Inquiry has been instituted to probe the circumstances leading to the killing of 75 old LD Rengtuiwan during a search operation at Bungte Chiru village on the night of November 16 as well as the bullet injury caused to the wife of the deceased, Thangmuchin.
The search ops was jointly launched by the 28 Assam Rifles and Thoubal police commandos.
A statement issued by PIB Defence Wing late this evening said, "an Army Court of Inquiry has been instituted to investigate the incidence and stringent action against the defaulters, if found guilty will be taken." The Army also shares the moment of grief with the bereaved family, said the statement.
Giving a background story of the operation, the statement said that a joint search operation was launched at Bungte Chiru village by 28 Assam Rifles and Thoubal police commandos on the adjoining nights of Nov 16 and 17 following specific intelligence report that some militants were holed up there and added that LD Rengtuiwan was killed in a cross fire between the security force and militants.
