Amidst heavy showers and tight security cover, the 63rd Independence Day was celebrated in different parts of the State.
In Churachandpur district, the main function was held at Lamka Public Ground.
Sumant Singh, the Deputy Commissioner unfurled tricolour at 9:15 am at the rain-drenched function with the IRB band playing the National
anthem.
Later, 33 contingents, mainly students treated the flock that gathered despite the heavy downpour with a spectacular parade.
Ever since the heap of armed groups based in the district entered into a Suspension of Operation (SoO) with the Government, the country's Independence and Republic Day celebration in the State's second largest township is picking up its stream in a commendable way.
The flock of residents that braved the rain and packed the Public ground was one obvious indication.
The 63rd Independence Day was also celebrated at Senapati district headquarters with Deputy Commissioner Nidhi Kesarwani as chief guest at Mini stadium.
The chief guest unfurled the Indian tricolour and received the salute of march past of around 30 contingents with Senapati police station OC P Lotpinaoi as parade commander.
Later, Nidhi Kesarwani presented special blankets to physically challenged persons, children victims of communal riots and village chiefs.
In the celebration held at Chandel district headquarters, Deputy Commissioner Devesh Deval unfurled the National flag and received salute of around 37 march past contingents of Manipur Rifles, Manipur Police, ex-servicemen, private bodies, college and school students.
Independence Day celebration was also organised in Jiri at the office of ADC complex.
Guard of honour was performed by the contingents of Jiri police and 5th MR.Jiri ADC Y Iboyaima, who was the chief guest of the function unfurled the tricolour.
The National anthem was sung by a group of Baptist Youth Fellowship, Jiribam.
Jiri SDPO O Menjor, Jiribam Municipal Council chairperson M Ratan and Major Manmohan of 5 Assam Rifles were also present in the function as guest of honours.
Sainik School Imphal also celebrated the 63rd Independence Day at school premises with usual enthusiasm.
Principal of the school, Group Captain Surinder Singh unfurled the National flag.
Three contingents consisting of 96 cadets of school NCC Coy participated in the march past parade organised by State Government at Imphal, said a press release of PRO PIB (DW).
