One day Chief Ministers Conference on Internal Security will be held at the Plenary Hall, Vigyan Bhavan here on August 7.Manipur Chief Minister Okram Ibobi along with Chief Secretary D..SPoonia and Director General of Police Yumnam Joykumar are attending the
Conference.
Naxal violence, activities of Pakistan-based terror outfits and situation in Jammu and Kashmir as well as the Northeast will dominate the day-long conference of all Chief Ministers convened here.
The Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who will chair the meeting, will address inaugural address and is likely to discuss in detail security situation in the country and measures to be adopted to maintain law and order with the Chief Ministers of all the States of the country.
The Union Home Minister P.C.Chidambaram will address opening remarks and it will be followed by the State-wise discussions on law and order, sources from Union Home Ministry said.
A separate meeting of Chief Ministers of seven Naxal affected states will also be held later in the day to specifically discuss the situation arising out of Maoists violence.
The conference will review the information collection system � both technical and human intelligence � its proper sharing and necessary action, modernization of police forces, procurement of arms and ammunitions, filling up of vacancies besides providing training to security forces.
The conference will stress on making police recruitment process corruption-free and will also review the outcome of the mock security drills the states were asked to conduct on a regular basis to check preparedness of the forces.
The Conference will be closed with the concluding remarks of the Union Home Minister.
This will be the first Chief Ministers Conference on Internal Security after the installation of the second term of UPA Government.
The last meeting of the Chief Ministers held on January 6 this year had decided to tighten security along the 7,200 km-long coastline, increase the number of police stations, check posts and interceptor boats.
In the last meeting the Union Home Minister pointed out two goals which the country had to achieve- first, to raise the level of preparedness to meet the increasingly sophisticated terrorists threats and second, to enhance the speed and decisiveness of the response to a terrorist threat or terrorist attack.
He highlighted the importance of organizational changes to achieve the goals.
