Pebam Chitaranjan who was self immolated in the wake of 2003 people agitation demanding repeal of Armed Forces Special Power Act, 1958 from the state was remembered today on his fifth death anniversary with function held at Bishnupur Community Hall.
Offering of floral tributes to the photograph of the late Chitaranjan by the gathering marked the observation function.
Speaking on the occasion, Ph Nando, advisor of the MSF said under the AFSPA, security forces have been claiming life of many people apart from hurting women in the state.
Chitaranjan made the sacrifice to bring an end to the atrocities meted by the security forces to the people of the state.
Now, time has come to stand people together and struggle for removing the draconian law.
Thambal Leima of Meira Paibi Apunba Lup said in the land truth has been converted into false, people who are to kill are not and killed those who are not to be killed.
Today's people are struggling for rights of the future society.
Government is trying to suppress the rightful struggle for rights to life.
In order to achieve the get the rights, the unity among the people is a must, she added.
MSF president Atabuddin while announcing that a memorial trust of Chitaranjan has been formed appealed to the people to extend assistants to the trust.
