Flatly rejecting the reported allegation of DESAM that the Principal of National Sports Academy (NSA) had attempted to misappropriate more than Rs 4 lakhs as baseless, Principal Leishangthem Ajit has set the record straight.
Briefing media persons at the UPF office today, Ajit informed that the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports is providing Rs 106 per day for each student of the Academy for their daily ration.
The daily ration is being supplied by the catering farm Tandoor Mahal.
Necessary preparation and submission for supplying the daily mess is being done by the Tandoor Mahal, clarified Ajit.
Stating thatthe Academy has 59 students at present, the Principal further informed that the total mess fee for these players for 71 days is Rs 3.67 lakhs.
However, the Tandoor Mahal submitted a bill of Rs 4.26 lakhs to the Directorate of Youth Affairs and Sports.
Subsequently, the Directorate referred the matter to the Principal of the Academy for a verification, L Ajit clarified.
Referring to the number of players registered on daily basis in the attendance register, the total mess bill for 71 days was Rs 3.67 lakhs.
The same finding was further forwarded to the Directorate, Ajit informed.
Expressing shock at the allegation that the Principal was scheming to misappropriate more than Rs 4 lakhs from the amount sanctioned for the mess of the Academy students, the Principal rued that such baseless allegation has not only affected his personnel credibility but also badly tainted the image of sports in the State.
Taking serious note of such negative implications, L Ajit further appealed to all concerned not to publish uncorroborated statements.
