Heeding the call of the Apunba Lup, sit-in-protests were held all over the place against the continued imposition of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act in the State and against the Konthoujam by election scheduled for tomorrow.
Around 200 protestors drawn from different communities took part in a sit-in-protest held at Pukhao Irampham today.
People from Pukhao, Phurju, Pukhao Laipham, Pukhao Khabam etc took part in the protest.
A similar protest was also held at Sagolmang bazar.
People from Sagolmang, Uyumpok, Pangaltabi, Purum Nepali, S Philand as well as students of Free Progressive Academy, Uyumpok, Little Rose School, Sagolmang and Sagolmang High School took part in the dharna.
The Apunba Nupi Lup also organized a mass sit-in-protest demanding the revocation of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act as well as against the Konthoujam by election at Singjamei.
During the dharna, all shops at Sing-jamei bazar remained shut.
Kanglamei, under the overall aegis of the Apunba Lup, also held a dharna at TYC Club, Takhellambam Leikai.
About 300 protestors took part in the dharna.
Students of MBC Higher Secondary School and Sika Higher Secondary School also held protests at their respective school gates today.
The Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur, Khoyathong also held a protest demonstration today at its shanglen at Khoyathong.
In a statement the women's body said members of the Thangmeiband Women's Organization, Nupi Khunai Lamjing Lup, Moirangpokpa Meira Paibi, Leimarol Meira Paibi, Thangmeiband Lourung Purel Leikai Meira Paibi, Naga Mapal Meira Paibi Lup took part in the protest.
Banners demanding the revocation of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act were put up during the protest dharna.
The All Students Guardians' Association, Manipur also organized a sit-in-protest in response to the call of the Apunba Lup today.
The protest was held at the Western Palace compound near BOAT and participated by members of the Mahabali Kabui Khun and Women Development Society, Palace Compound.
The protestors put up banners demanding the revocation of AFSPA as well as the unconditional release of all agitators who have been arrested by the Government.
The protest was held from 10 am till 4 pm.
The Chief Minister was also urged to look into the demands of the people and take steps to fulfill them.
Sit-in-protests in response to the call of the Apunba were also held at many different places.
The Kakhulong Kabui Mothers' Association and Paona Bazar Women's Welfare Organization staged a protest dharna today demanding the complete removal of the AFSPA as well as against the by election.
Similar protests were also held at Yumnam Leikai and Chingamathak bus waiting shed.
The Irawat Day Celebration Committee also organized a sit-in-protest at Old Checkon Bazar with its president O Priyokumar leading the dharna.
Protests were also held at Imphal Kongba road by the Konung Leikai Nupi Kanglup, Thangapat Mapan and at Wangkhei Keithel Ashangbi.
Students, meira paibis, clubs and local organizations also organized a sit-in-protest at the MSRTC complex at Jiribam and also the auto parking of Jiribam.
Teachers and students of Macha Leima also organized a dharna at their school gate, while meira paibis and local clubs organized a similar protest at Ekou bazar.
