Imphal, October 12:
The UPA-Left coordination panel met in the capital today to hold wide-ranging discussions on some contentious issues.
Political issues rather than economic ones dominated the agenda.
The Left parties on Monday said their focus would be the violence in the North-East and the developments in Jammu and Kashmir.
The functioning of the Union Home Ministry came under the Left parties' scanner on Tuesday, with the UPA partners deciding to seek explanation from the government on its policies regarding Jammu and Kashmir and the North-east and the proposal to talk to militant outfits.
The four Left parties, which met in the capital a day ahead of a meeting of the coordination committee between them and the UPA government, decided to seek the Centre's views on these issues.
"The Prime Minister has just met (Pakistan) President Pervez Musharraf.
We would like to know where the (Kashmir) issue stands now.
We would also give our suggestions," CPI General Secretary AB Bardhan said after a 90-minute meeting of his party, the CPI(M), RSP and the Forward Bloc.
He said the situation in the North-East was also volatile.
"So many bomb blasts and terrorist attacks have taken place.
The terrorist outfits also have safe havens in Bangladesh and Myanmar.
