Protest staged against arrest of quarry worker

Imphal, January 11 2011:
Protesting arrest of a quarry worker by some armed persons suspected to be police commandos, the local residents staged a Wakat Meepham at Thamnapokpi under Imphal East district today.
Thirty years old Naorem Inaoba s/o Inaocha of Thamnapokpi Makha Leikai had been reportedly arrested by the armed persons from his house in the night of January 9 .
Inaoba is said to be a quarry worker in Thoubal river.
The armed persons who were suspected to be police commandos were five in number and they came together in a white colour Maruti.
Two of them carried large guns while three others carried pistol.
All five of them were in civilian dresses.
Apart from pointing their guns on the heads of Inaoba's uncle Ghambhir Singh and younger sister Ibembi, the armed persons also reported threatened secretary of local club.
Protestors who participated in the Wakat Meepham demanded that Inaoba should be released safely at once.
Around one week before the incident of arrest, some Assam Rifles personnel from Yaingangpokpi reportedly came looking for Inaoba.
At that time, Inaoba was undergoing treatment at a hospital.
Tamna Devi, mother of Inaoba, has lodged a complaint with Lamlai Police Station in connection with the arrest of her son.
But still whereabouts of Inaoba could not been established.
