Assessment of disabled persons to begin

The Social Welfare Department will be assessing the disabled persons of the state by identifying them and issuing disabled certificates through District Medical Officers from the last week of this month onwards.
In an interview, Assistant Commissioner (Disabilities), Social Welfare Department, Th Dilipkumar said that disabled persons need the disability certificate to avail the various schemes of the government.
There are many disabled persons in the state who do not have certificates.
The department is taking up the initiative to assess the disabled persons in the state to provide them disability certificates.
Disabled persons of Imphal East, Imphal West, Thoubal and Bishnupur district will be assessed in the first phase which will start from the last week of the current month.
There are only about 13,000 disabled persons in the state who have certificates.
But the actual number f disabled persons in the state is far higher than the recorded number.
The assessment camps will be held in District HQs in first phase and later in block level.
The department will arranged transport means for the disabled persons to attend the assessment camp.
Dilipkumar said that the assessment of disabled persons is done in the office of the board in JNIMS Porompat.
However, persons from remote and far flung areas could not come to the office due to certain reasons.
In order to prevent the inconvenience faced by the disabled persons while obtaining certificates, te department is organizing the assessment camp,
he added.
