Sander wood seized

Troops of 6 Dogra of 26 Sector AR reportedly seized Rs 2 crore worth of illegal sander woods on December 5 at a vehicle check post set up at Moltuk village.
Based on information regarding movement of some banned items, three khundagarhis were stopped at the check post at around 2 pm yesterday, said a PRO IGAR (S) release adding that when these vehicles were scanned, a large quantity of wood well camouflaged under layers of gravel and sand were found.
After a thorough check, it was revealed that the vehicles were carrying about 147 logs weighing 4.3 tonnes of banned sander wood varying in sizes from 3 feet to 10 feet in length.
The approximate cost of these logs is Rs 2 crore, said the release.
On questioning the driver, it was discovered that these vehicles were hired by one SK Lovering for delivering the timbers to Molphibung village.
The strict vigilance by security forces is continuously assisting in preventing illegal activities to restore normalcy in the area, maintained the PRO while conveying that all people involved in this illegal transportation of timber as well as the wood have been handed over to the Forest Department of Manipur.
