Sander woods worth Rs 2 cr seized

Security forces have seized 147 logs weighing 4.3 tonnes of banned Sander wood worth crores of rupees in the international market.
According to a statement issued by PRO IGAR (S), based on information regarding movement of some banned items, personnel of 6 Dogra of 26 Sector AR under aegis of IGAR(S) established a vehicle check post at Moltuk in Chandel district yesterday.
Three khundagarhis (Vehicle no.MN-01/9152, NL-04A/3293 and MN-01/5909) were stopped at the check post at around 2 pm and when these vehicles were scanned, a large quantity of wood well camouflaged under layers of gravel & sand were found.
After a thorough check, it was revealed that the vehicles were carrying approximately 147 logs weighing 4.3 tonnes of banned sander wood varying in sizes from 3 feet to 10 feet in length.
The approximate cost of these logs is Rs 2 crores.
On questioning the driver, it was discovered that these vehicles were hired by an individual named S K Lovering for delivering these timbers to Molphibung village.
All people involved in this illegal transportation of timbers identified as David (driver of vehicle no.MN-01/9152), Kotab Lamkang (vehicle owner), Bebe Lamkang, Koko Lamkang, T Medun (driver of vehicle no.NL-04A/3293), Kako Lamkang, Kothil Manng, Prekumar Meitei, Th Komang (driver of vehicle no.MN-01/5909), Motrong Lamkang, Romesh Lamkang, Welson Lamkang, George Lamkang, Rengkamung Lamkang and Tarphot Lamkang have been subsequently handed over along with the the seized sander wood to the Forest Department of Manipur.
