Abnormal increase in the number of electors in respect of Polling Station No.2/25-Laipham Siphai Khunou (C) under No.2-Heingang Assembly Constituency has been detected during the Intensive Revision of Electoral Rolls, 2005.According to an official source from the office of Sub-Divisional Officer/ERO, Sawombung, there has been an abnormal increase in the number of electors in the said Polling Station to the tune of 102.23 percent within a span of one year.
The total number of electors as per the existing Electoral Roll, 2004 is 1073 and the number of newly included electors is 1113.After deleting 16 cases, the total number of electors remaining in the prepared manuscript is pegged at 2170, thereby indicating an increase of 102.23 percent, the official source said.
The source informed that as per the instruction and guidelines of he Election Commission of India, such abnormal increase of electorates is required to be physically verified.
In his regard, the SDO/AERO Heingang and his subordinate staff have been directed to conduct the physical verification of the electors tomorrow, the source informed.
While, conducting the physical verification, all the relevant provisions/procedures under the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960 and Representation of People Act, 1950 should be followed, the source said, adding that an order has been issued in this connection giving necessary instructions to all concerned.
Meanwhile, transfer and posting of any officials engaged in the ongoing Electoral Roll Revision, 2005 in the State has been restricted following a notification of the Election Commission of India (ECI).
This step has been taken up to ensure smooth conduct of the Electoral Roll Revision in the State, said an informed source.
Deputy Election Commissioner (DEO) Dr Noor Mohammad had issued a notification in this connection to all the Chief Secretaries of the States (exception to Arunachal Pradesh and Maharastra), where Electoral Roll Revision is being carried out, the source informed.
The notification issued on July 12 last imposed strict restriction on transfer and posting of District Election Officers, Electoral Registration Officer and Assistant ERO without the permission of the Commission.
The restriction, however, would not be applicable to IAS probationers, the source added.
