Imphal, November 06:
Following the detection of eleven new villages and abnormal increase in the number of electorates in some of the villages under Chandel dist, the authorities concerned have been instructed to look into the matter and conduct a probe without any further delay.
These surprising revelations were detected during the recent intensive electoral roll revision under taken by the enumerators in Chandel dist from October 1 to 31.It may be noted here that the roll revision exercise was taken up by the State Election Dept officials following strict instruction from the Election Commission of India.
The new villages which were detected during the recent revision process are Bongli, Bongmon, Khulzang, Leizao, Keiphong, Chatung Mahoulang, Tonglang and Heikot under Machi Sub Div and Khunsat and L Pheizang under Tengnoupal sub Div.
Enumerators are yet to begin counting the electorates in these villages till today.
Even though all the eleven villages are reported to have been established during the Naga Kuki Ethnic clashes in the early nineties, there are still apprehensions whe-ther these villagers were included in the electoral roll prepared in the nineties.
Moreover, the large scale influx of refugees from Myanmar into the Indian territory have further raised doubts over the nationality of these villagers.
Meanwhile, the DC concerned has also been instructed to submit a report after conducting a through investigation on the sensitive issue.
The process for including the names of these villagers in the electoral roll has also been stalled and would continue only after verifying the facts of the villagers.
State's Chief Electoral Officer V Chibber who has also been informed on the matter has instructed the authorities concerned to conduct an inquiry and find out from where these villagers had migrated from.
