Imphal, November 06:
The State police have submitted the report to the Manipur Human Rights Commission in connection with the disruption of a burial service at Phumlou by the local people in July this year.
The MHRC took up the case following the submission of a memorandum to it by the president of All Manipur Christian Organisation Rev Vumthang Sitlhou.
The same memorandum was also earlier submitted to the Chief Minister.
The memorandum said that on July 13 this year, a Christian woman, Ph Yumshang Devi, mother of Pastor Amuba Phijam passed away and on the next day her body was buried with full Christian service at the Church cemetery at Phumlou.
However the local people, armed to the teeth, barged into the house of the woman and ordered the family members to dig out the body and take it elsewhere.
Frightened, the family members fled and when they returned, they found the body of the woman dumped at their court yard.
A complaint was filed with the Lamshang police station but no action was taken up, said the memorandum and finally the body was buried with the co-operation of ex-pastor Kharam Thadou.
On October 14, the rights panel had asked the State Govt authority to submit a report on the matter.
The police on October 28 submitted the report stating that one receipt of the written complaint the OC of Lamshang police had registered a regular FIR case number 17 (7) 2004 u/s 148/149/153-A/427/295-A/297/506 IPC and assigned an SI to investigate the case.
