Amit Shah continued that Manipur is the birth place of many brave figures like Bir Tikendrajit, Paona Brajabasi, Thangal General, Niranjan etc and even the INA, under Netaji Subash Chandra Boss, hoisted the first freedom flag in the State.
Under the watchful eyes of Chowkidar N Biren, Manipur has become a peaceful and developed State today, he claimed adding that with the coming of the Biren Government, the State has not experienced any economic blockade or bandhs unlike the time of the previous Congress Government when the people suffered due to scarcity of food and essential supplies due to long economic blockades.
The Government led by N Biren has been able to accomplish all these due to the rock solid support from PM Modi, he added.
The BJP president conveyed that ever since the Narendra Modi led Government came to power in 2014, it has been working for the development and the welfare of the people tirelessly.
He claimed that after the coming of the Modi Government, the 14th finance was ushered in and the budget for the North East States increased by more than 258 percent.
During the time of the Congress Government, not a single session of the North Eastern Council was held but after Modi came, numerous sessions were held and ways to improve the condition of the North East region were deliberated.
Stating that Manipur is full of talented sportspersons, Amit Shah said that unlike the Congress Government of the past, which gave only Rs 8 lakh to sportspersons who won medals and brought laurels to the State, the BJP increased the award to Rs 15 lakh.
The Modi Government even approved the establishment of National Sports University in Manipur, he added.
Lauding the positive changes brought by the BJP Government in Manipur, Amit Shah said that the construction of Jiribam-Imphal railway began during the time of then Prime Minister (L) Atal Bihari Vajpayee but after the Congress came to power, it was not able to finish the work even after 10 long years.
However, under the Modi Government, the project will be completed by 2021 and begin operation, he added.
He continued that the highest railway bridge in the world will also be a part of the said railway project and added that this will also help in attracting more tourists to the area.
The Modi Government built more than 300 kilometres of roads, constructed 5 helipads (under Uran scheme), improved Imphal International Airport.
Steps are underway to include cargo service as well, he informed.
Explaining that a broadband service called Information Way (I-Way) is being planned in Imphal mainly targeted at the youth Amit Shah also spoke about various projects taken up under Biren Government's like Start-Up, Go To Village and Go To Hill, construction of women markets, establishment of Fast Track Court for tackling crimes against women etc.
Accusing the previous State Government under O Ibobi Singh of various unethical practices, Amit Shah said that during Ibobi's time, there was constant tension between the hills and the valley of Manipur.
But with the coming of the BJP Government, the tense atmosphere has completely vanished, he claimed.
The Modi Government initiated a mission called Ayushman Bharat to ensure free treatment upto Rs 5 lakh for the poor people.
Under PMUY scheme, free gas connections were also distributed to the poor and needy people, Amit Shah explained.
On the other hand, the BJP president alleged that when the Congress was in power, the country was not able to do anything when extremists killed innocent civilians and security personnel.
But recently, in stark contrast to the past Government, the Modi Government ordered an air strike inside Pakistan territory following the Pulwama attack where more than 40 CRPF jawans lost their lives, he added.
This bold move catapulted India to the third spot, just behind America and Israel, when it came to the capabilities of carrying out surgical strikes inside the territory of another county.
Amit Shah then appealed to the people to vote for the BJP candidates in the coming election.
Chief Minister N Biren Singh also spoke at the event which was attended by BJP Manipur Pradesh president and Rajya Sabha MP K Bhabananda, former MP Th Chaoba, Ministers V Hangkhalian, Shyamkumar, Nemcha Kipgen, Th Biswajit, Karam Shyam, Radheshyam, MLAs Paonam Brojen, Y Surchandra, BJP Outer candidate Benjamin Mate, Inner candidate Dr RK Ranjan, BJP Thoubal district president L Deven as well as BJP workers of Thoubal and Kakching BJP Mandals.
