Imphal, February 26 2015:
The United Committee Manipur (UCM) has urged the State Government to make special arrangements for around 2200 CBSE students of the State who are facing the grim prospect of missing the Class X and Class XII exams.
Speaking to media persons at their Lamphelpat office today, UCM president Yumnam Nabachandra said that the report about non-arrival of admit cards for the 2200 students was a matter of serious concern.
The State Government, particularly Education Department should be held accountable for the mess-up.
The innocent students have landed in such a predicament on account of the Education Department's failure to check infrastructure, campuses, teaching staff, students' strength etc before granting official recognition to CBSE schools which are mushrooming in different parts of the State.
The Government cannot shirk responsibility by blaming students and parents for the embarrassing issue.
In order to avoid jeopardizing career of the students, Education Department should arrange a special examination for them.
Moreover, stringent actions should be initiated against private schools and coaching centres which are involved in the case.
The present issue has its roots in running private schools and coaching centres as pure business enterprises.
The issue has been exacerbated by the tendency of some students/parents to clear exams and/or score high marks without putting in much labour.
This does not mean all CBSE schools of Manipur and students studying at these schools are academically poor or lazy, Nabachandra said.
The issue is largely an outcome of the Government's policy failure and it would have serious repercussions on the State's human resource pool in future.
Parents too should be very careful while choosing schools/colleges before enrolling their children, Nabachandra exhorted.
He also condemned police excesses reportedly committed against students who were taking out a protest rally at the capital city against denial of examination admit cards.
