3086 teacher posts still vacant: Okendro

The total strength of government school teachers in Manipur is 15,983 and the number of vacant posts at present is 3086, informed Minister for Education M Okendro during the Question Hour on Thursday.
Answering a question put up by Opposition MLA Th Shyamkumar, Okendro stated that the government has initiated plans to fill up the vacant posts of government teachers.
He replied that a total of 3275 teachers have been appointed under SSA and RMSA and another 133 posts are still vacant.
The number of selected teachers who belonged to the Scheduled Caste category is 52 under SSA and 14 under RMSA, he stated maintaining that none of the teachers have been utilized in other departments.
Responding to another question raised by Shyamkumar, PHED Minister I Hemochandra informed that altogether 1328 water supply projects under Central Sponsored Schemes and 596 projects under State Government schemes are to be taken up.
So far, the department has started work for 290 CSS and 198 state government projects.
Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, who also holds the Home portfolio, stated that the district-wise allocation of police vehicles is 238 for Imphal West District, 151 for Imphal East, 108 for Bishnupur, 150 for Thoubal, 32 for Churachandpur, 40 for Chandel, 54 for Senapati, 37 for Tamenglong and 43 for Ukhrul.
