Imphal, March 17 2013 :
Agriculture Minister Md Abdul Nasir today inspected Ngangou paddy fields of Lilong Turel Ahanbi Atoukhong where preparations are being made to develop 200 acres of paddy fields as model seed village out of the cash component of the Krishi Kamal Award conferred on the State Government by the President of India recently.
Speaking to local farmers during his inspection tour, Abdul Nashir stated that the Government has been implementing many programmes and policies for the welfare of peasants.
As part of these programmes, crop seeds including paddy seeds are being provided to farmers every year through Agriculture Department.
However, disappearance of the crop seeds before they are distributed to farmers has been severely impeding growth of agriculture and its productivity in the State.
In case the 20 tonnes of paddy seeds which are being kept aside for distribution to farmers this season vanish, befitting actions would be initiated against all concerned officials, warned the Agriculture Minister.
Agriculture Director G Shamu Kabui stated that the department has been developing a number of model seed villages with the objective of boosting the State agricultural productivity.
Apart from personally tilling a patch of paddy field by using a power tiller, Md Abdul Nashir distributed CAUR-III variety paddy seeds to the local farmers.
