Maisnam Meiraba wins, creates history

11-year old Maisnam Meiraba Luwang has created history by becoming the first Manipuri player to win, not just one but three medals, in any Badminton championship at the International level, that too, in his debut International championship.
In the Israel Junior International Badminton, 2013 organised by Israel Badminton Association at Rishon Lezion, Israel from March 14 to 16, Meiraba outwitted his opponents in all the three events he sailed into the finals of Boys' Single Under-11 years, Boys' Doubles Under-13 years and Mixed Doubles under-13 years.
In Under 11-year Boys' Single final, Meiraba defeated Madina Srikar, also from India, in straight set 21-15, 21-19 to clinch the winner's trophy and medal.

In the final of under 13-year Boys' Double, Meiraba teamed up with Raz Kischitzky of Israel to give a tough time to the team of Yengening Ganavych and his partner Igor Kalinichenko of Ukraine before emerging winner in straight set 21 18, 21 15 .
In Under 13-year mixed doubles, Meiraba paired up with Eden Moses of Israel in the final against Yuval Pugach and his partner Simanovshi , undoubtedly, the home favourite team, to give them the taste of defeat in front of the home crowd 21-14, 21-17 .
Born on December 21, 2002, Meiraba is the son of Badminton coach Maisnam Romesh of Sega Road, Khwairakpam Leikai, Imphal.
He is presently studying in class VI in Shishu Nistha Niketan School.
To take forward his career in sports, Meiraba would start advance training in Badminton at TATA Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy, Bangalore from April 1, 2013 .
Meanwhile, Manipur Badminton Association has expressed happiness over the success of Meiraba Meisnam at the Israel Junior International Badminton, 2013 and observed that the achievement of Meiraba would be a source of inspiration to other Badminton players in Manipur.
