Imphal, March 14 2023:
The Naga Youth Forum, Manipur (NYFM) has called for a mass social movement to address the present socio-political issue created by vested interests in the State.
As per a press release issued by Amu Pamei, president, NYFM, this socio-political issue is evidenced by the "recent agitation launched by some sections of people in support of the illegal encroachment in the reserved and protected forests" .
The statement also laid down the demands of the mass social movement to the Government of Manipur and the Government of India.
These include immediate action to i) identify and delete the fictitious villages and the bogus population, ii) identify and delete the bogus Aadhaar cards and voter identity cards, iii) derecognize chieftainship heading multiple villages and iv) enactment of appropriate laws for recognition of new villages.
In their press release, NYFM addressed various issues such as loss of forest cover in the State, the issue of drug trafficking and poppy cultivation and illegal settlement in reserve and protected forests.
NYFM also expressed alarm over the detection of many villages with fictitious populations, Aadhaar cards and voter identity cards.
"Correspondingly an attempt to control land and resources has been translated into a political movement demanding a separate political status.
This has resulted in socio-political issues in Manipur," NYFM maintained.
As such, NYFM has appealed to all right-thinking citizens of the State to extend support to this mass social movement for peace and harmony in Manipur.
