Many continue to stand firm against CAB 2016

Bpr/Tbl, February 10 2019: Continuing to express strong opposition towards the passing of Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016, people from different parts of Bishnupur district and Thoubal district carried out different kinds of protests today.

Nambol Sabal Leikai Apunba Meira Paibi Lup and Civil Society of Culture Kangleipak organised a sit in protest at Nambol Sabal Leikai community hall where in several people of the area turned up to condemn the Bill.

The locals along with the members of the organisations took out a protest rally from the locality till Maibam Lokpa Ching and shouted slogans and held up pla cards denouncing CAB, BJP, RSS and called to save the indigenous people of the State and the North East States.

Meanwhile, in Bishnupur Keithel, different students organisations namely AMSU, DESAM, SUK, KSA, AIMS, MSF and women vendors blocked the Tiddim road (NH 150) .

The students organisations along with the women vendors staged a sit-in on the road and burned tyres as well.

During the agitation, all business establishments were shut and many came out in the streets to take part in the protest.

MSF Bishnupur branch general secretary Konsam Akash warned that the people of Manipur are set to launch the ultimate stir if the Bill is not withdrawn adding that the Bill cannot be implemented in the State.

The protesters also held up banners which reads, "Down Down BJP Govt", "We oppose CAB", "Long Live Manipur" etc.

In Thoubal district, Sanamahi followers of Wangjing Apunba staged a sit-in protest in front of BJP Wangjing-Tentha Mandal today.

Speaking to media persons, Manipur Democratic Front secretary general Th Rojel asserted that the CSOs, Meira Paibis and public will not back down from fighting the CAB 2016 adding that the people want the Bill to be withdrawn immediately.

Whether a clause is inserted or not is of no concern to the people, he added.

He warned the State Government to consider the consequences which can turn grim when the irate people of Manipur takes up more stringent agitations.

On the other hand, extending solidarity to Manipur people Against CAB (MANPAC), Meira Paibis of Wabagai, Hiyanglam, Keirak Lamjao, Tezpur and local people organised a torch rally from Wabagai Lamkhai Keithel till Keirak yesterday.
