Assam Rifles conducts mega social service event

Imphal, February 10 2019:
Mantripukhri Battalion of 9 Sector Assam Rifles, under the aegis of IGAR (South), organised a Mega Social Service Event in the areas of Sawombung, Yurabung, Paurabi and Sekta of Imphal today.
As part of the event, a free medical cum dental camp was organised.
In addition, five solar street lights and 18 sewing machines were distributed to the locals of various villages.
The battalion, on receiving the request for installation of solar street lights during its monthly security meet, provided and installed five solar street lights in the locality.
In addition, as part of endeavour for women empowerment the Battalion provided eighteen sewing machines to the needy women of Sawombung Thongkhong village so as to make them self reliant and to provide a source of income.
As part of the medical and dental camp, free consultation and medication was provided to over 600 needy patients by doctors of Assam Rifles, and by the doctors provided by Chief Medical Officer, Imphal East.
Besides attending to routine medical problems, a dental checkup was also carried out by the medical teams.
The attendees were also enlightened about health and dental care along with spreading awareness on maintenance of oral hygiene.
The inaugural programme witnessed an attendance of over '700 villagers of Sawombung Thongkhong, Yurabung, Paurabi and Sekta, during which Commandant of Mantripukhri Battalion handed over the solar street lights and the sewing machines to the village authorities.
While lauding the efforts of Mantripukhri Battalion for its initiative in reaching out to the needy, the Commandant assured the villagers that Assam Rifles will continue its work for safety and welfare of the people of Manipur.
The villagers appreciated the gesture of the Assam Rifles in reaching out to them and hoped that this would go a long way in further cementing the bond between the people of Manipur and the forces.
