Cabinet okays five new sub-divisions

For better and more effective administration of hill districts, a Cabinet meeting held today agreed to create five new sub-divisions.
The Cabinet meeting held in the conference room of the Chief Minister's Secretariat started at 2 pm and it was presided by Chief Minister O Ibobi.
Briefing media persons after the meeting, Government spokesman and Education Minister M Okendro informed that the State Cabinet after minute deliberation gave its consent to create five new sub-divisions in the hill districts.
The five new divisions in the pipeline are Mao sub-division and Bungte Chiru sub-division in Senapati district, Lungchong Meiphai sub-division in Ukhrul district, Thangtin sub-division in Churachandpur district and Haochong sub-division in Tamenglong district.
Mao sub-division would cover 51,138 citizens residing in 13 villages.
These villages are presently under Tadubi sub-division.
Lungchong Meiphai sub-division's jurisdiction would be over 28 villages whose total population is 42,451.These villages constitute a TD Block at present.
Thangting sub-division would be comprised of 125 villages with a total population 27,730.Of the 125 villages, 66 are presently under Churachandpur sub-division and another 59 under Henglep sub-division.
The decision to create the five new sub-divisions was adopted with a view to ameliorate difficulties encoun- tered by people while going to far off district headquarters or block headquarters to obtain ST Certificate, Income Certificate and other essential Govt documents.
The Cabinet meeting also agreed to appoint four Additional Government Advocates.
Being Class I gazetted posts, the recruitment would be done through MPSC, Okendro added.
