Lamka, September 04 2013:
A married woman who was accused of trafficking young women to the southern city of Bangalore on the pretext of providing them jobs has been handed over to police today, a day after she was detained by KSO volunteers while trying to influence her victims to return to Bangalore for securing the release of her accomplice.
The woman identified by police as Nengchin, wife of Tiken of Jangnuomphai village was detained late yesterday at Teisieng village while trying to influence two of her victims to return to Bangalore and declared before the Court that they were in Bangalore on their own volition.
Sources said the woman had taken the two victims to Bangalore by promising them jobs but on landing in the city she along with her accomplice identified as Shyam, instead sold them off to their clients.
After the parents learnt about the fate of the girls, they alerted the KSO in Bangalore who in turn alerted the authorities and after a frantic search rescued them sometime in July.
Shyam was arrested by the police and put behind bars while the victims were taken back to their village.
It was in trying to secure the release of Shyam that Nengchin had approached the girls said the source.
She was trying to influence the girls to give Shyam a clean chit on the issue, in order to secure his release, it added.
Though it was the KSO which initially detained Nengchin, they have handed her over to Kuki Women Human Rights Organisation (KWHRO) and it was the later who finally handed her over to the police today.
