Bishnupur, September 03 2021:
Traffic movement along the Tiddim road in Bishnupur area was disrupted for a brief moment today during the 48 hours bandh called by CI College Students' Union that demands immediate joining of the newly transferred faculties of the college.
Members of the students' union came out to enforce the 48 hours bandh starting from 5 am today and directed all shops and vendors in Bishnupur market to remain closed.
The bandh supporters also stopped vehicles on Tiddim road until the Police came in.
The Police brought the situation under control following a brief struggle.
Leaders of the students' union along with leaders of Lumlandong Apunba Lup were picked up before the traffic was restored.
Speaking to the media, one of the students' union members said that the Government transferred the only history teacher of the college along with another teacher, leaving the department with no faculty.
Following the demands made by the union, the Government had issued transfer orders of two teachers to fill the vacant seats, however they have not reported to the college till date.
The demand of the students is simple, let the newly transferred teachers join the college as soon as possible or cancel the transfer order of the two teachers, added one of the students.
Yumnam Roja Sahani, secretary, CI College Students' Union said if the Government does not fulfill the demands of the students, BA/Bsc exams slated to start from September 6 will be boycotted in the college.
