5776 candidates file nominations for Panchayat elections

Imphal, August 03 2012: With the last date of filling nominations for contesting in the General Elections to Zilla Parishads and Gram Panchayats spread across the four valley districts ending today, altogether 5776 aspiring candidates have submitted their nominations.

Among those filing nominations papers, 376 candidates are for Zilla Parishad, 738 for Pradhan and 4662 for member.

So far, 22 candidates for Zilla Parishad, 79 for Pradhan and 511 for member have filed their nominations to Sawombung RO; 38 for Zilla Parishad, 91 for Pradhan and 522 for member filed nominations to Porompat RO; 9 for Zilla Parishad, 23 for Pradhan and 180 for member filed nominations to Ziribam RO; 14 for Zilla Parishad, 40 for Pradhan and 283 for member filed nominations to Lamshang RO; 22 for Zilla Parishad, 51 for Pradhan and 328 for member filed their nominations to Patsoi RO.

In Wangoi RO, 29 for Zilla Parishad, 69 for Pradhan and 436 for member filed their nominations; 11 for Zilla Parishad, 49 for Pradhan and 414 for member filed nominations to Lilong RO; 24 for Zilla Parishad, 70 for Pradhan and 463 for member filed nominations to Kakching RO; 15 for Zilla Parishad, 37 for Pradhan and 145 for member filed nominations to Nambol RO; 20 for Zilla Parishad, 31 for Pradhan and 153 for member filed nominations to Bishnupur RO and 18 for Zilla Parishad, 47 for Pradhan and 297 for member filed their nominations to Moirang RO.

In the last General Election to Zilla Parishad and Gram Panchayat, in all 251 candidates filed their nominations for Zilla Parishad, 556 candidates for Pradhan and 2679 candidates for member.

Comparing with the last election, the number of candidates filing nomination this time is much higher.

The scrutiny of the nomination papers would be done tomorrow in the office of the respective ROs.

The last date for withdrawal of candidature is August 7 .

Meanwhile, in connection with the Panchayat Elections, the polling stations of various Zilla Parishads and Gram Panchayats have been declared.

The Zilla Parishads and Gram Panchayats include Telou Chana Seijang, Sawombung, Thakong Dolaithabi, Khundrakpam, Kontha Khabam, Laipham Khunnou, Keirang Khomidok, Khurai Nandeibam Leikai, Khurai Chingangbam Leikai, Top Naoriya, Kshetrigao, Bamon Kampu, Bashikhong, Uchekon Nongchup, Keirao Makting, Tulihal and Changamdabi.
