Imphal, June 02 2013:
There is a strong suspicion that the Dental Council of India (DCI) is not at all amused with the activities of RIMS Dental College.
The foremost prerequisite for a dental college is dentistry department or a functioning dental clinic with at least 10 beds.
Only then, an institution can apply for setting up a dental college.
By virtue of having a Dentistry Department in RIMS for the last many years, local people who worked/are working in the department submitted a proposal to the Government to set up a dental college at RIMS.
After a long period of lobbying with the Government of India, the dream of establishing a dental college was realised after Prof Sekharjit took over the post of RIMS Director.
According to a reliable source, DCI had deputed its officials and they inspected RIMS Dental College twice.
Two DCI inspectors first inspected the dental college on April 31 and May 1 this year.
Another two-member team of DCI officials made a spot assessment of the dental college on May 31 and June 1 as compliance of the first inspection.
The second inspection was made in compliance with the first inspection as DCI authority was not convinced or satisfied with the claims made by RIMS authority, said the source.
