Imphal, June 02 2013:
A sick man is now undergoing treatment in more aggravated condition after he was assaulted by police commandos while he was being taken to a hospital.
The shocking incident happened at Bishnupur town at about 10 last night.
Deben who witnessed the police brutality said that they were taking his brother-in-law Khwairakpam Paka (33) of Ithing Mayai Leikai to a Imphal hospital in a Tata Winger as he (Paka) complained of excruciating pain due to presence of stones in one of the vital organs.
As they reached Bishnupur town at about 10 pm, they were stopped by a team of Bishnupur commandos who used a Gypsy embossed with the letters CDO Bpr-13 .
The commandos asked to point out the sick man.
After all the occupants were forced to alight from the van, they started beating up the sick man, Deben recalled.
As Deben who is secretary of Peaceland Club, Ething Heikol Leikai, tried to intervene, he was also slapped.
All the commando personnel were in inebriated condition except one.
It was the one who was in normal condition that brought senses to his fellow commando personnel.
Paka is currently undergoing treatment at Raj Polyclinic.
Even though some stone granules have been removed from his body, both his ears have been severely injured because of the brutal assault by police commandos.
Meanwhile, it is reported that superior officers of Bishnupur police have held a meeting and discussed about initiating necessary action against the erring commando personnel.
