The 25th Archives Week Celebration cum Record Exhibition being organised by Manipur State Archives, Department of Art and Culture under the auspices of National Archives of India, New Delhi began from today at the complex of Manipur State Archives, Keishampat here.
Padmashree RK Jhalajit and retired Director of College Development Council, Manipur University Dr Y Mohendro were chief guest and president of the inaugural function respectively.
Retired Principal of Imphal College Sairem Nilbir and Reader of N G College Dr M Lokendra also attended the function as guests of honour.
Giving the key-note address, Deputy Director of State Archives W Sushila said that the main objective of the week-long celebration is to display old historical records and spread awareness among the people on the importance of our cultural heritage.
She also appealed to the people to hand over historical records which are in their possession to the State Archives for preserving them for posterity.
The exhibition of historical records being organised as part of the Archives Week celebration was inaugurated by RK Jhalajit and would continue for three days.
Some of the exhibits include Kanglathontaret-thinglangmei (an ancient manuscript), nine flags used by different Kings who occupied the throne of Kangla.
The names of the kings who have supposedly used the flags on displayed are Ibudhou Pakhangba, Meidingu Taothingmang, Meidingu Khui Ningomba, Meidingu Kiyamba, Meidi-ngu Khagemba, Meidingu Loyumba, Meidingu Khui Ningthou, Meidingu Chan-drakirti and Meidingu Chu- rachand Maharaj.
Among the exhibits are also 28 revenue maps of ancient Manipur donated by one Sanabam Raghumani alias Khamba of Wangkhei Ningthem Pukhri Mapal.
At the occasion, Padmashree RK Jhalajit recalled the life histories and works of late scholars like RK Sanahal, H Nutunchandra Sharma and S Mayurdhaja.
Sairem Nilbir spoke on the works of late scholars Ex-MP Ng Mohendra and ex-MLA N Ibomcha.
