Imphal, December 28:
Blaming district administration officials for the controversy surrounding the steep increase in population of some hill districts, the BJP Manipur Pradesh president Th Chaoba Singh termed as unjustifiable the State Governments proposal to limit the increase to a stipulated rate.
Interacting with news persons at the party office today, the former MP said process of the State Election Office to limit the population jump at every hill districts within the 8/9 percent is without logic.
Elaborating on his observation, Chaoba said de- tailed explanation is required by the State Government on limiting the population rise to within the stipulated percentage adding that increase in population would naturally vary from one assembly constituency to another.
Alleging malpractices and inefficiencies of respective SDOs/SDCs that led to over 25-40 percent population rise during the January 2004 population surveys in the hill areas, Chaoba said the Election Commission of India officials have been intimated by the party on December 3.Not ruling out possibility of ruling parties having mis-utilised the State machinery and official manpower that resulted in the steep hike of population figure, the BJP president also charged officials concerned of laxity in close examination like inclusion of underage persons, non deletion of list of deceased persons and retaining of female members married to other region in the voters list of place of origin.
Rather than pulling up the SDOs/SDCs found involved in population surveys from where inexplicable rise were reported the new proposal to limit the population increase would not be acceptable to the BJP, he asserted.
