The Komrem Union has decried that some militant groups under SoO pact have been indulging in all kinds of arm-twisting tactics such as threatening candidates and voters alike with the motive of ensuring victory for their chosen candidates.
Speaking at the flag hoisting ceremony of independent candidate in 23-Nong-maiching DCC S Sailenthang Bosco Kom at the candidate's.Thayong residence today, Komrem Union, North East India president Lalkhomang Serto said that many Kom candidates are contesting the ADC election.
But many militant groups under SoO pact have been incessantly threatening these candidates asking them to withdraw their candidature.
These militant groups have also been imposing restrictions on electioneering activities apart from serving monetary demands on the particular candidates.
Komrem Union condemns all such activities which directly challenge the every essence of democracy.
Militants have no place in any election process which is the most crucial component of democracy.
However, they summoned and dictated village chiefs to vote in favour of their chosen candidates, Lalkhomang Serto alleged.
Saying that ugly incidents may break out if these acts of threatening candidates and voters continue any further, Lalkhomang appealed to all concerned not to pose any kind of hindrance to the election process.
Had they embarked on a campaign of making the election free and fair, everyone would have appreciated them.
He also decried that the Government has not yet taken up any action against those militant groups which are directly challenging the very essence of democracy.
Village chiefs, Church leaders and leaders of different civil society organisations were present at the flag hoisting ceremony.
