Imphal, May 25 2015 :
Taking serious note of the recent attacks on Congress workers/supporters in connection with the ADC election, Congress legislators today urged Chief Minister O Ibobi to take up foolproof security measures.
A meeting of the Congress legislators was held today at the Chief Minister's office where security related issues were deliberated at length.
Many of the Congress MLAs complained that party supporters are unable to campaign for the ADC election due to persistent threats.
Another agenda raised by the disturbed MLAs was holding election rallies at district headquarters.
The Chief Minister informed the MLAs that the Ministry of Home Affairs has agreed to requisition Central paramilitary forces for the ADC polls and they (security forces) would be arriving here in the next couple of days.
Ibobi assured that he would convene a meeting of the combined headquarters today itself and security agencies would be asked to take up all necessary security measures.
Notably, MHA has agreed to requisition 60 companies of Central paramilitary forces for the ensuing ADC election.
In addition, 113 companies of State security forces and 43 companies of unarmed police would be used in the election.
Later in the evening, a review of the prevailing law and order situation was held with Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam in the chair in his office chamber.
The DGP, the GOC 57 Mountain Division, Assam Rifles officers and high-ranking officials of Home Department were present at the meeting where security requirements and arrangements for the ADC election were deliberated at length.
