Imphal, June 22 2015 :
Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam has asked the journalist fraternity of Manipur to be sensitive and prudent enough in what they write and report.
There are many learned people as well as not so knowledgeable people in Manipur, Gaikhangam stated at the 3rd foundation day of Manipur Chronicle which is a sister publication of Eastern Chronicle.
Speaking as the chief guest at the foundation day of Manipur Chronicle held at Manipur Press Club today, Gaikhangam underscored the immense role of media.
The truth may become false and vice versa at any unguarded moment.
So media persons need to be always meticulous and careful, he asserted.
It is newspapers which enlighten the mass every morning even before the Sun rises on the eastern horizon.
A deeper analysis revealed that it was media which won people's faith for BJP, a political party which was groping in the dark till recently, Gaikhangam asserted.
The incumbent Government led by Chief Minister O Ibobi has deep respect for media.
He is always ready to do what he can whenever the journalist fraternity ask for something.
Generally, more valuable lessons are learnt from critics than friends.
The lessons thus learnt often become a reliable companion in the journey of life.
Acknowledging the growing importance of DIPR, the Deputy Chief Minister stated that the Government has been working to develop the directorate in tune with the changing time.
Efforts are on to give all DIOs a status not lower than Joint Director, Gaikhangam added.
Works Minister Dr Kh Ratankumar remarked that media is more vibrant in Manipur as compared to other North Eastern States.
Once the grand project of connecting India with South East Asia through terrestrial routes becomes a reality, Manipur would see a sea change in road and transport infrastructure.
The function presided by Manipur Chronicle Editor Nilotpai Choudhuri was also attended by DIPR Director Somorjit Salam and AMWJU president Wangkhemcha Shamjai.
