CADA holds meeting at Ningthoukhong

As a part of the mass movement to eradicate intoxicated drugs from Manipur,Coalition Against Drugs and Alcohol (CADA)with Ningthoukhong Awang Khunou Meira Paibee and Ningthoukhong Awang Khunou Clubhas organized a meeting on the theme "Nisana khunaida piba cheitheng amasung masibu thingbada meeyamgee thoudang" on June 21 at Community Hall of Ningthoukhong Awang Khunou.
Advocate Y.Ratankumar, President CADA; Angom Tombi, Councillor Ward No.1 Ningthoukhong Municipal Council; Thokchom Manglembi, President, CADA Bishnupur District Committee; Laimayum Bashudeva Sharma, Ex-Councillor, Ningthoukhong Municipal Council attended the meeting as presidium members and Wahengbam Joykumar, Executive Director Human Rights Initiative (HRI) attended as Resource Persons.
Clubs and meira paibis are very much important and indispensable in eradicating intoxicants and drugs from our society.
As a part of Golden Triangle such drugs will be possibly traded through Myanmar-Moreh route and some remnants will surely be left over in Manipur, Joykumar said as resource person but added that it could be easily eradicated from two angles.
The first is regular check up by excise or NCB and the second is regular meetings at different localities to create awareness of such harmful drugs.
He further added that drug addiction is a disease, a family disease, character disease, rehabilitate disease and a social disease but at the same time people should avoid mob justice.
Advocate Y Ratankumar, President CADA said that Manipur has become one of the top ranking state in India which uses tobacco.
In RIIMS out of 100 cancer patients 60/70 die and they were found to be tobacco abusers.
If a pregnant woman abuses tobacco during the period of pregnancy the child would be born underweight and mentally retarded.
