General JJ Singh, PVSM, AVSM, VSM, ADC, Chief of the Army Staff made his maiden visit to Manipur today after taking over as Chief of Army Staff on February 1 this year.
The army chief was accompanied by Lt Gen Arvind Sharma, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Command, Lt Gen Daljeet Singh, General Officer Commanding 3 Corps.
He was received at Mantripukhri by Major General BS Ghotra, IG Assam Rifles (South) and Major General GG Dwivedi, General Officer Commanding 57 Mountain Division, said a release of PIB (DW).
An alumnus of the National Defence Academy, the General was India�s first Defence Attach� to Algeria.
As the Deputy Director of Operational Logistics at Army Headquarters, he was responsible for planning and execution of Indian Army�s Peace Keeping Mission to Somalia and Sierra Leone.
During the Kargil conflict, the General held the prestigious post of the Additional Director General Military Operations.
The General has a vast and varied experience in North East.
The chief called on the Governor of Manipur, Dr SS Sidhu and interacted with Chief Minister Shri O Ibobi Singh to discuss matters relating to military and the State.
Mrs Anupama Singh, president Army Wives Welfare Association and Mrs Ira Sharma, president Army Wives Welfare Association Eastern Command were accorded warm reception by the Assam Rifles Wives Welfare Association at Mantripukhri.
