The Governor SS Sidhu has extended his warm greetings on the sacred and auspicious occasion of Mahavira Jayanti.
In his message, the Governor said that the teachings of Lord Mahavira cut across all social barriers of caste, creed and religion and convey an eternal message of peaceful coexistence of mankind as a whole.
Mahavira showed path to salvation through love, compassion, forgiveness, benevolence, non violence and renunciation of materialistic desires, he added.
Stating that Lord Mahavira's message of peaceful co-existence is increasingly relevant in today's trouble torn world, Governor urged the people to follow his ideal "Live and Let Live" and make the celebration meaningful.
On the auspicious occasion of Milad-un-nabi, SS Sidhu extended his heartiest greeting and best wishes to all the Muslim brethren of the State.
Dr Sidhu said that Prophet Mohammed, a great apostle of peace, preached the message of piety, righteousness, universal brotherhood and goodwill.
Urging the people to remember the ideals, principles and values espoused by the Prophet, he said the celebration of Milad-un-nabi will be meaningful only when we work unitedly for a harmonious, peaceful and prosperous society.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister O Ibobi has expressed his warm greeting the Jain community.
O Ibobi said that the teachings of Lord Mahavir is based on the principles of "Live and Let Live" with more emphasis laid on peace, non-violence and forgiveness.
