MKS (Maralui Karalimei Swijongkang) launches Go Green mission

An Environmental Interface cum massive tree plantation towards combating climate change and global warming was kick-started today at the Multi Purpose Hall of Senapati Mini Secretariat complex, under the fourth annual Go Green Mission, 2012 of the Maram Students' Union (Maralui Karalimei Swijongkang) .
The Go Green Mission, 2012, the fourth annual initiative of the MKS since 2009 was held in collaboration with District Administration, Senapati.
The inaugural function of the Mission was graced by PK Jha, DC of Senapati; Kh Ibohal, DFO; and Pungdi P Celestine, President of Maram Students' Union as the chief guest, guest of honour and president respectively while Presidents of SDWA, SDSA and Maram Women Union were the special invitees.
Speaking at the occasion, PK Jha urged the gatherings to give information to the district administration if they come across any illegal timber transportation so that necessary action against the illegal merchants is taken up.
He said environmental protection would not be effective just by discussing the matter in seminars and workshops while exhorting the gatherings to go on extensive campaign in the grassroots/field.
Stating that climate change and global warming have become the greatest challenge to the continued and dignified existence of mankind, PK Jha urged the people to undertake massive tree plantation in order to enjoy balanced ecology like our forefathers did.
Stressing on the role of media in promoting environmental awareness, he also said that issue pertaining to environmental should be strongly focused in order to garner wider awareness.
Phungdi Celestine said the drive has been initiated in an attempt to give back to mother earth what has been taken away from her while conveying that the Maram Students Union is committed to act locally.
From creating awareness to planting saplings, the initiatives have gained ground and received huge response in terms of quality and quantity, he said while also adding that the concern for environment and forest did not end with the concerned department alone.
Stating that the mission was the manifestation of Think Global, Act Local, he added that the MKS has been acting locally on its part while further appealing all concerned to help and participate in the Go Green campaign.
As a part of the mission, tree saplings were planted in and around the Mini-secretariat complex, Senapati today to mark the launch of the mission.
On July 21, a tree plantation would be held along NH-2, market and public places of Senapati district while the plantation drive would be taken out at Willong Barren land.
3500-4000 saplings have been targeted to be planted during the campaign.
