Pseudoephedrine worth Rs 14 lakh seized

Imphal West sleuths of Special Intelligence Unit (SIU) seized three cartons of pseudoephedrine in solid form worth about Rs 14 lakh from the MG avenue office of Air India today morning at around 11 .
Recovery of the drug used in the manufacture of heroin, comprised of 29,916 strips and 222 bottles each containing 1000 pieces.
According to SIU inspector K Ranjit the drug consignment was flown into Manipur in an Air India cargo flight and reached the MG Avenue office at noon yesterday.
As per documents seized from the office, origin of the consignment was from one Pawan Logistics in New delhi and addressed to Ramesh Choudhury, Babupara Shop no 63, Ranjit informed while asserting that use of Narcotic Drugs Detection kit has confirmed the items (tablets) to be pseudoephedrine.
pseudoephedrine, widely used in the manufacture of heroin (No 4), is a chemical already banned by the Government of India.
While in some South East Asian countries pseudoephedrine is referred as Yaba tablet, it is known as Bulbuliya in India, explained the inspector.
