Attempt to withdraw money through fake pensioners' documents foiled

Attempt to withdraw a sum of Rs 15,41,083 from the Tamenglong branch of UBI in the name of six fake pensioners and that too by using fake documents has been foiled following timely detection by the Treasury Officer of Tamenglong district.
Accordingly to a reliable source, in June last year, an application for withdrawal of the amount for the six fake pensioners on the basis of the pensioners' payment order (PPO) signed by ATO Tamenglong was received in the UBI Branch, Tameng long.
During the course of the verification, it was found that there was no record on the approval given for withdrawing the amount in the office of the Director Treasure nor the Treasury Office, Tamenglong has given any advice to the bank in this regard.
The process for withdrawing the amount was almost over, when the Treasury Officer, Tamenglong detected the fraud attempt and managed to recover the entire amount, the source added.
According to another source, the State Government has recommended Record Management project, taken up for the first time in Manipur under the leadership of Director of Directorate of Treasury Th Kirankumar, for Commonwealth Association Public Administration and Management (CAPAM) Award.
Following success of the project taken by the Treasury, the State Government has also taken up necessary steps for replicating the same in the Department of Personnel as well.
