CEO censures job call advertisements

Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) has imposed restriction on two advertisements for recruitment published by Manipur University and DM College of Science respectively in some section of State media as they were in violation of the enforced model code of conduct of the by-election to Konthoujam Assembly Constituency slated on February 14. The advertisements in question related to recruitment of one Junior Research Fellowship in Biotechnology Department of Manipur University and one Project Fellow in Environmental Science Department of DM College of Science.
The advertisements were published in some section of the media today.
Taking serious note of the matter, the Chief Electoral Officer has written to the Head (Project Principal Investigator), Department of Biotechnology, Manipur University as well as to the Principal Investigator, Department of Environmental Science, DM College of Science.
In his letter, the CEO pointed out that the model code of conduct came into force since January 12 in the entire district of Imphal West with the announcement of the by-election to 18-Konthoujam Assembly Constituency by the Election Commission of India and it is applicable to all candidates, political parties, the State Government and the Union Government as far as the State of Manipur is concerned.
As per the announcement of the Commission, appointments in Government, Public Undertakings, etc are not allowed during the period of enforcement of the model code of conduct.
Moreover the two offices have not obtained the prior clearance of the Commission before publishing the advertisements.
So, the two advertisements amount to violation of the model code of conduct, which would continue till the by-election process is over.
The CEO has also advised cancellation of the said advertisements and defer the recruitment process till the completion of the election process and intimate the action taken report in this regard immediately.
