Imphal, October 03:
Expressing reservation against the proposal raised by FCS Minister to construct a 2,500 metric-tonne capacity FCS godown of Tamenglong district at Noney, the Chairmen's Council of Tamenglong District Village Authority has urged the Government for setting up the proposed godown at Tamenglong District headquarters instead in accordance to the Cabinet decision taken earlier in this regard.
Talking to mediapersons in this connection at Mass Hotel located at Assembly Road here this afternoon, general secretary of Tamenglong District Village Authority Chairmen's Council Kaibonang Pamei pointed out that at the insistence of the Council the Government had agreed
and given necessary instruction to the authorities concerned for setting up the godown at the district headquarters because of its suitable location from the view point of solving the problem of scarcity of food grain in the district.
Subsequently, FCS Minister Y Erabot himself had come to inspect the site for construction of the godown.
But inspite of that, the Minister has raised the proposal for setting up the godown at Noney which is just 2/3 hours journey from Imphal.
This is not right, Kaibonang said.
The Tamenglong district headquarters is the most suitable site for setting up the godown.
So instead of setting up the godown at Noney which is not very far from Imphal, the FCS godown at Sangaiprou, Imphal can served thje purpose very well, Kaibonang said, while appealing to the Government for setting up the godown at the district headquarters only in accordance to the decision of the State Cabinet.
He also warned of taking recourse to agitation if the Government fails to understand the aspiration of the people and said that the Government should also be held responsible for any eventualities in this regard.
Leaders of the Village Authorities of Tousem, Tamenglong and its surrounding areas were also present during the press conference.
