Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has appealed to the Government for enacting a law to ban use of mobile phones in the school campus by the students upto the Higher Secondary level.
Addressing a press conference in its head office here this afternoon, president in-charge of the student body PC Newton said misuse of mobile phones and internet by the students should be a cause of real concern for all in the light of corruption of the moral character of the students these days.
It is high time not only for the school authorities and the parents to prevent impressionable youngsters from using mobile phones in the school campus but also for the Government to come up with a legislation in this regard, PC Newton maintained.
He further observed these days the students are not taking interest in their studies while trying to get the re-charge coupon of their mobile phones.
Having a mobile phone is also becoming a fashion among the students although they misuse these modern gadgets in sending lewd pictures and dirty jokes and taking nude photographs of their own.
Moreover, mobile phones are also being misused by the youngsters in connection with getting drugs and other banned pharmaceutical substances, he noted.
