Imphal, October 03:
Rejecting the charges levelled against Akoijam Yaima alias Romen of Mongsangei Mayai Leikai after being killed by PREPAK, Mongsangei Apunba Meira Paibi Lup has announced its decision of boycotting the outfit socially if it fails to substantiate the charges and make it known to the public at the earliest possible.
Talking to mediapersons, representatives of Mongsangei Apunba Meira Paibi Lup who organised a Wakat Meepham at the Pilo Library ground of Mongsangei Mayai Leikai in connection with the Mangani Leihun Tamba ritual of the deceased today categorically stated that they could never accept the charges levelled against Yaima after being killed.
While pointing out that this was not the first instance of heaving charges against an innocent person after being killed, the women agitators said that they could no longer remain quiet.
Yaima alias Romen was an innocent person leading a simple life by running a hardware shop, they added.
The women agitators demanded that if there is any truth in the claim of the PREPAK that Yaima approached the Government Departments for work in defiance of the ban imposed by it and continued to indulge in activities which are against the interest of the outfit, then it should come out with a detailed clarification on which are the Departments that Yaima had approached for work as well as on the activities done by him against the outfit.
In case of failure in coming out with such a clarification, then the public would consider PREPAK as an anti-people organisation and socially boycott it, the women agitators stated firmly.
The women's body further clarified that apart from prevailing upon the State Government for extending necessary relief assistance to the bereaved family members, the JAC formed in connection with the killing had not instigated anyone to target the houses of the accused persons.
It was only mob violence that has led to the destruction.
So, the outfit should withdraw its threat of holding the JAC responsible for the damages caused to the houses of the accused persons.
The protest demonstration held from 8 am to 4 pm was attended by many local people, mostly womenfolk and they used placards inscribed with slogans denouncing killing of innocent person and heaving charges afterward.
