Imphal, October 09 2014:
Condemning what it termed communal action of Manipur police for arresting NK Phungreishung, Secretary of Shangpun Long (an umbrella organisation of 18 villages) on October 6, 2014 at Poirou Chingjin under Andro Police station on the ground that he is a sympathiser of the United Naga Council (UNC), the UNC in its 4th Council Assembly resolved to place the matter before the Government of India and further pursue an Alternative Arrangement outside the Government of Manipur (GoM) .
Phungreishung was on a mobilisation drive for a seminar to be held at Shungriphai village on October 11, 2014, in which Gaidon Kamei, the General Secretary of the UNC was to be the resource person.
The seminar programme and Rs 3400 were also taken away from Phungreishung.
That the state police force found reasons to detain and harass a citizen for organising a seminar where a UNC official would be speaking reflects the utterly communal orientation of the personnel involved, alleged UNC.
"The GoM must also respond to this matter and be held responsible for any untoward incident arising out of the highly provocative action of the State police," the UNC said.
Meanwhile, the All Tribal Women's Organisation and Rural Upliftment Federation (RUF) have also strongly condemned the act of Andro PS personnel for seizing copies of a seminar programme and Rs 3400 from SPL secretary on Oct 6 .
The two bodies in separate statements demanded the Andro police to return the programme and the cash.
They also urged the Home Minister to take necessary action against the police personnel.

The tenure of the present incumbent executives was extended by the Council Assembly upto November 2014 within which time election for the tenure 2014-2018 would be conducted by the Election Commission, which was also appointed during the Assembly.
