Dr Sekharjit's bail plea rejected

The court of special judge, Manipur East today rejected the bail plea submitted by Dr..SSekharjit, former Director of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), who was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation, ACB Imphal on charges of purchasing dental chairs and other accessories for the dental College and Hospital, RIMS at inflated rates.
In its ruling, Special Judge Manipur East N.Rajnikanta Singh said that grant of bail to Dr.Sekharjit has been refused considering the gravity and nature of the accusation against the former Director.
The ruling also mentioned that a regular case under the IPC section 120-B, 420 and 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d) PC Act against Dr.Sekharjit will be registered against the accused after obtaining approval of competent authority in the Ministry of Health & family welfare, Government of India.
Dr.Sekharjit was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation, ACB Imphal on criminal charges of purchasing Dental chairs at an inflated rate of Rs.3,75,000/- per chair, while the same item was available at the market at 1.31 lakh.
He was accused of accruing wrongful expenditure of amount Rs.50 lakhs from the RIMS exchequer.
