Imphal, October 09 2014:
Chief Minister O Ibobi's statement that the Governor has been appealed to reject the Bill intended to bring the institutions of Umang Lai under the Govindajee Temple Board after it was passed by the State Assembly and the Cabinet was rather humiliating for the State, remarked BJP State unit president Th Chaoba.
Addressing an election meeting held at Hiyanglam Mayai Leikai today, Chaoba said that Ibobi is the first Chief Minister of Manipur to have requested the Governor to reject a Bill his Government submitted for due approval.
It would be politically more correct if Ibobi admits that the Bill passed by the State Assembly has been rejected by the people and that his Government did not study the merits and demerits of the Bill before it was passed.
Reacting to Ibobi's statement that the Centre's offer to set up a sports university in Manipur was in recognition of the spectacular performance and achievements of Manipuri players, Chaoba remarked that the Chief Minister through this particular statement openly admitted that he did not bring the sports university.
However, Chaoba dismissed Ibobi's claim that he (Chaoba) did not bring the sports university to Manipur as misleading.
The BJP State unit president contended that the proposal to set up a sports university in Manipur was included in the party's election manifesto released ahead of the last Lok Sabha election.
Establishment of sports university and development of Imphal-Jiribam highway were announced by Narendra Modi during an election rally in the State.
After Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister, the two projects of setting up a sports university and development of Imphal-Jiribam highway were included in the new Government's 100 point programme.
The Congress Government would not be allowed to handle a single rupee out of Rs 100 crore reflected in the Union budget for establishment of the sports university, Chaoba asserted.
Many other States too have excellent records in the field of games and sports like Manipur.
If the Union Government was not asked or lobbied to set up the sports university in the State, it could have gone to some other State.
This much should be understood by the Chief Minister, Chaoba asserted.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi abolished the Planning Commission because it turned out to be a place for misappropriation of huge amount of public money.
Saying that a defamation suit of Rs 50 crore has been filed against Imphal correspondent of The Statesman Yambem Laba, Chaoba maintained he should get punishment if he cannot prove what he wrote.
