Okram Ibobi opens NVS National Football & NVS National Archery Meet, 2014

Imphal, October 09 2014:
Manipur Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh opened the 25th Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti National Football and 17th Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti National Archery Meet, 2014 at Indoor Stadium, Khuman Lampak Sports Complex here today.
The Chief Minister, who attended the inaugural function as chief guest, said that JNVs were setup to give quality education to students from rural areas and to give overall development by competing with their urban counterparts.

He said, 'aspirant students/players who are participating in the meet would become prominent persons of India in future and it will also give a chance to students, who are representing different JNVs, to know each other'.
The meet will also give a big opportunity to students to demonstrate their sports talents, he added.
"Games and sports constitute an inalienable part of modern education.
The standard of healthiness of a country can be measured by the performance in games and sports," Ibobi said.
While noting that in the recently concluded Asian Games at Incheon, South Korea, sportspersons from Manipur won three gold and four bronze medals bringing laurels to Manipur and the country, the Chief Minister said Manipur, being a small state, has been able to produce many sportspersons in national and international arenas.
Ogranised jointly by Ministry of Human Resource, Department of School Education and Literacy, Government of India and Regional Office, Shillong Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Khumbong, the Meet is participated by altogether 457 students from eight regions, Hyderbad, Patna, Pune, Shillong, Lucknow, Bhopal, Jaipur and Chandigarh.
Parliamentary Secretary, Youth Affairs & Sports and Tourism, Government of Manipur, M Prithviraj; and Secretary Revenue, Government of Manipur K Radhakumar, IAS were also present guests of honour of the programme presided over by DC of NVS, Regional Office Shillong, Dr NS Reddi.
