FTCs inaugurated

Chief Minister N Biren Singh inaugurated two Fast Track Courts (FTCs) located at Uripok and Lamphelpat through video conference from the Chief Minister's Secretariat, Imphal today.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that the FTCs have been set up to tackle the cases related to crimes against women in the State.
During the last three and half years, around 951 cases of crimes against women have been registered, he added.
He mentioned that with the establishment of these FTCs, women will get faster access to justice while also serving as a deterrent to criminals.
The Chief Minister maintained that there is an urgent need to dispose all major cases of crime against women such as rape, torture etc.
These FTCs will dispose the pending POCSO and rape cases in the State, he added.
He opined that there is a long felt need for Judiciary and Executive to go hand in hand for justice and development.
The State Government has appointed two retired District and Sessions Judges Salam Imocha Singh and Chandam Brajachand Singh as Judges of the two newly inaugurated FTCs, he added.
In his address, Chief Justice of Manipur High Court, Ramalingam Sudhakar said that the objective of the FTCs is to provide speedy and effective trials to the cases related to women and children.
He mentioned that women and children need to be protected from abuse and violence.
Deputy Chief Minister Y Joykumar, Minister for Law and Legislative Affairs L Jayantakumar Singh, Minister for CAF&PD Karam Shyam, Judges of Manipur High Court, Chief Secretary Dr Rajesh Kumar, Secretary (Law) Athokpam Nungsitombi, and others took part in the video conference.
