Imphal, August 05 2020:
A joint statement by various bodies of Khoijuman village has drawn the attention of the State Government towards the plight and sufferings of vegetable farmers of Khoijuman village in Bishnupur district, as a result of the ongoing lockdown.
The statement said that the most of the Khoijuman villagers depend upon vegetable cultivation of both Kharif and rabi crops and the daily production of various vegetables in Khoijuman alone runs up to an approximate quantity of 15-20 tonnes in the current season.
As the vegetables are easily perishable and due to the lack of proper preservation facilities, the marginal farmers, as well as engaged labourers, are facing acute complications, it said.
In this regard, it appealed to the Chief Minister to look upon the matter and requested for appropriate arrangement(s) to redress the grievances faced by the farmers/villagers.
